This song began with the intro guitar riff. As it bloomed and took shape, I kept picturing two people holding each other while around them, a storm raged. It reminded me that real peace doesn’t come from this crazy world: the only real peace comes from loving someone and being loved back. When you find that, protecting it becomes everything.

I wrote his song to speak to a painful experience shared by millions: loving someone who is sinking into deep darkness and refusing to give up on them. It gives voice to both sides of that struggle, whether you’re the one reaching out or the one who can’t yet believe you’re worth saving. Written as a plea, the song repeats the line “Don’t let the dark night drive you crazy” like a mantra, a promise to help that person hang on through the night, both real and metaphorical, even when the outcome is uncertain, until the light has a chance to return.
